SKIING WITH KIDS IN ITALY, THE MAIN PLACES

As you may know, Italy has 2 main mountain ranges: the Alps on the north side (the natural Italian borders with France, Switzerland, Austria and Slovenia) and the Apennines who split the the peninsula in 2 parts. So you are practically sorrounded by mountains everywhere you go! This is a perfect match if you want to spend a week or more visiting different parts of Italy.

The ski season starts in December and ends at the beginning of April, but it depends where you are. Usually, the Alps get more snow for longer than the Apennines. So, where to go skiing with kids? Here they are the best places to spend a fantastic family time!

SKIING WITH KIDS IN ITALY: THE GREAT NORTH

Alps are Alps. The Italian side of this huge mountain range is very fascinating, showing the mountain at its full beauty. Amazing colors, great landscapes and very well equipped ski slopes are perfect for all the families looking for a good time on the mountains. Valle d’Aosta, north-west side, hosts his majesty the Mont Blanc, the highest mountain of Europe, with 194 km of slopes. Kids will have a lot of fun in Courmayeur, especially if they have to learn skiing (there is a very good Ski school). If in Piemonte, go to Sestriere and its ‘Milk Way’, a huge mountain range that goes from Italy to France, where both adults and kids will have fun practicing on the slopes. From 18th to 19th January, you can also enjoy the adrenaline of the Audi Ski World Cup. Heading to Trentino? You’re in the right place for families. This region is particularly kid-friendly, offering many activities, from museums to mountains. There are several family hotels on the Dolomites (UNESCO World Heritage site), offering lots of entertainment and tours for families with kids.

SKIING WITH KIDS IN ITALY: THE BEAUTY OF CENTRAL ITALY

If we talk about skiing with kids in Central Italy, one region comes to my mind, the amazing Abruzzo. Wild and free, this mountain area is considered the very heart of Italy. Good news: Rome is about 1:30 hrs by car, which means that you can combine a Tapsy Tour of the Eternal city with a weekend on the mountains. One of the closest ski slopes is Ovindoli-Monte Magnola, a very nice place for both kids and adults, with easy slopes devoted to kids. Roccaraso is the biggest ski area of Abruzzo, perfect for kids with its Kinderheim. Plus, Abruzzo is a great place to discover and enjoy with kids, as it still is a not-crowded region, where life goes slowly and quiet and you can really enjoy the beauty of nature.

SKIING WITH KIDS IN ITALY: AMAZING VIEWS ON THE SOUTH

Yes, you can skiing in south Italy, what a surprise! The warmest area of Italy has also some nice places to enjoy the pleasure of the snow with a view, a fantastic view! I am talking about Mount Etna, which is not only the biggest active volcano of Europe, but also a stunning place to go skiing with kids! With just 10 km of slopes, Mt Etna offers something that you can rarely see when you go skiing: being on a volcano and having an amazing view on the sea. This worths the journey. It is a perfect place for families, with a ski school and safe slopes for kids. at the end of the day, don’t forget to have an arancino!
