1. WHY MANY PEOPLE DIDN’T WANT TO GET INTO BELEM TOWER

The most famous tower in the capital of Portugal has been used for many different purposes over the years. From the telegraph post, to the lighthouse, to the customs office, it has covered more roles than Sylvester the Cat when trying to catch Tweety! The most interesting one? Long time ago, it was employed as a prison…not surprising that it wasn’t a popular meeting point at the time…what about now? It is today a UNESCO World Heritage Site and the meeting point for the Tapsy Tour of Lisbon as well! Can you spot me near it?

2. UNUSUAL ARTISTIC SPOTS AND WERE TO FIND THEM

Most people believe that to find great pieces of art you need to get into a museum…right…except if you are travelling to Lisbon. In fact, the best pieces of art in the capital of Portugal can be found on the streets: I am talking about the amazing graffiti that cover Lisbon and contribute to make it one of the most interesting capitals of Europe.

4. LET’S TALK SERIOUS, LET’S TALK ABOUT FOOD!

People in Lisbon can get very serious about that: the secret recipe of the Pastéis the Belém! Are you wondering what’s so special about them? Well, basically they are custard tarts, or pastéis de nata, but they are still confectioned according to the 1837 Jerónimos’s recipe, which is more than secret. In fact, patisseries working at the Pastéis de Belém cafè, have to follow a precise code of rules: they can’t write the recipe down, they can’t be on the same flight, they can’t order the same dish at a restaurant and many others you can ask me while tasting a delicious pastéis de nata during the Tapsy Tour of Lisbon!

5. ART IS THE AIR…AND ON THE GROUND!

In a city where trams and graffiti become touristic attractions, you won’t be surprised if I suggest to focus your attention on the ground…

Colorful, meaningful, artistic and absolutely amazing are only some of the adjectives that will come to your mind as you step the typical Portuguese pavement. Getting lost in Lisbon can lead to unbelievable discoveries if you remember not to rise your head!

6. A LIVELY ICON OF LISBON

When you think of an iconic animal for a city, you imagine a lively, powerful or at least cute animal…like a DARK RAVEN! Right?

OK, not really what came to your mind first, but hey, I am mole and any animal is my friend!

Why do people have the cult of ravens in Lisbon? Because, according to an old legend, the body of São Vicente, the patron saint of Lisbon, during his trip back to the city, was accompanied by two ravens. The cult is so solid in Lisbon that once, in São Jorge Castle, you could even find a large cage with ravens!
