You thought about it, you decided, you booked: it is finally time for some Amalfi coast family holidays! One of the most famous locations in the world definitely deserves a visit once in a lifetime, and even more! Question is: is the Amalfi coast a nice place to visit with kids? Of course it is, if you have patience and plan most of the things in advance.

First advice is ‘take it easy’. If you are traveling over there during summer, traffic could kill you.

Streets are tiny and loads of people want to visit the coast. If you can avoid to take the car, perhaps you should consider to use the ferry and move from village to village. You should know that Amalfi is the local pearl, but the coast hosts other 14 villages, between stunning views and amazing sea.

DAY 1 OF AMALFI COAST FAMILY HOLIDAYS: VIETRI SUL MARE

If you come from Salerno, Vietri sul Mare is the first coastal village you reach. Small, pretty quiet and home of the most famous ceramics of the entire coast. Many craftsmen live and work here and offer little workshops where you and your children could experience some great time working on your own little ceramics.

Don’t miss to visit the church of San Giovanni Battista, its dome is entirely covered by green and yellow ceramics! The most famous place to go for ceramics is Palazzo della Ceramica Solimene, inspired to the Guggenheim museum and the Museo della ceramica vietrese, where you’ll discover more about this very ancient tradition. The day is long enough to have a rest on the beach, don’t forget your swimwear!

DAY 2 OF AMALFI COAST FAMILY HOLIDAYS: AMALFI

The pearl of the coast! If it is your very first time here, you can’t absolutely miss the beautiful Amalfi, ancient maritime republic (together with Venezia, Pisa e  Genova). Its cathedral with the stunning dome is one of the most famous Italian spots, you surely saw it in a picture at least once in your life.

Warning: Amalfi could be very crowded during summer time, the good news is you don’t need a car once you get there, the highlights are reachable just walking. Getting into the cathedral is an amazing experience, here you can really feel how much Amalfi has been influenced by different cultures, over the centuries. If parents must taste some real limoncello, children can enjoy the typical local treat, the delizia al limone, with lemon cream into little sponge cakes. Taaapsylicious!

DAY 3 OF AMALFI COAST FAMILY HOLIDAYS: POSITANO

A dream comes true in Positano, because it really seems like you are living the paradise experience. So white, so beautiful, so elegant, Positano is all about walking through the white houses, shopping white dresses and hats and have fun taking the boat and go exploring the coastal line.

If you have enough time, you can plan a boat ride to Capri (but this is another story I will tell you soon!).

OUT OF THE ROUTE: GETTING TO POMPEII

The Amalfi coast is very close to the archeological area of Pompeii, it will probably be on your way if you are coming from Naples.
