Europe is famous for hosting some of the best and most kid-friendly Carnivals in the world. However, only some of them are really TAPSYlicious! Put your best masks in the luggage and get prepared for your trip to the cities of carnivals with me, the mole king of family travels!
BEST CARNIVALS IN EUROPE: BASEL, SWITZERLAND
One of the best Carnivals in Europe is surely the one that takes place in Basel. It’s so TAPSYlicious that in 2017 it was even placed on the UNESCO World Heritage List. During the three days of the carnival, Basel becomes a place where any kind of artistic expressions are possible, how could’t kids love it?
The carnival of Basel starts in the middle of the night, at 4am to be precise, with an extraordinary parade of masked drummers and pipers, playing according to their carnival theme and lantern. The second day of the carnival traditionally hosts an event entirely dedicated to families: a parade of masked kids passing by either individually or in groups representing a specific topic. The dates for 2019? March 11th, 12th and 13th. Hurry up!
BEST CARNIVALS IN EUROPE: LONDON, UK
Considered the Europe’s biggest street festival, the Carnival of London is probably one of the most thrilling events that you can experience in Europe with kids. Although it is called Notting Hill Carnival, its activities extend up to Landbroke Grove and Westbourne Park. What makes the Carnival of London absolutely unconventional, besides EVERYTHING, are its dates. Traditionally held in August, in 2019 the dates of the Notting Hill Carnival will be August 24th, 25th and 26th. The perfect moment of the year to enjoy a Family Tour of London!
BEST CARNIVALS IN EUROPE: VENICE, ITALY
From February 16th to March 5th, one of the best Carnivals in Europe will take place in Italy, with the amazing background of Venice. With its historical reenactments and artistic performances, the Carnival is considered one of the best moments to visit Venice with kids.
One of the activities I like the most during the Carnival is the best mask contest, with extravagant, unique and funny groups of people parading in St Marco square. There also a kid version of the best mask contest. Kids, are you ready to dress up?
BEST CARNIVALS IN EUROPE: BARCELONA, SPAIN
The Carnival of Barcelona is more than a area event: it’s a CITY EVENT. All over Barcelona, from February 28 to March 6, districts will organize many different Carnival activities to entertain both adults and kids. While the centre of activities will take place in the Born area, many other districts will run amazing collateral activities, like “El Carnaval de Cruïlla” and “El Carnaval de Sitges”.
