The “Natale di Roma”, how locals call it, is a major event in the Italian capital. That’s why the City of Rome every year organizes a big party around a special theme. The 2773rd birthday of Rome will be dedicated to the important period of Ancient Rome that goes from Nero to Vespasian. It will be the “Gruppo Storico Romano”, the historical group specialized in Ancient Rome reenactments organizing it.
In fact, during the event, you will have the chance to see: a cithara and flute music show, an ancient rugby match, the election of the “Roman goddess”, the long-awaited “siege of Masada” war simulation and much more! OPENING DAYS AND HOURS OF THE BIRTHDAY PARTY OF ROME IN APRIL 2019
The Eternal City is so important that one day of celebration is just to enough! The City of Rome has in fact organized so much as 4 days of celebration: from Friday 19th to Monday 22nd. Not bad for a birthday, isn’t it?
The activities?MANY. And for kids? EVEN MORE.
On the first day of celebration there will be many didactic activities for kids, with games to discover how life was in Ancient Rome. For adults, there will be historical fiction writers presenting their latest publications and the election of the “Roman Goddess”. Before the day ends, there will be dances and music played with ancient instruments, like flutes and citharas.

Sunday celebrations will surprise you with a parade of Ancient Rome reenactors, who will amuse spectators with the blessing of Emperor Hadrianus. If you like sports, you will surely enjoy watching the “harpastum” match, the ancestor of rugby, played with a ball made of cloth!
For the last day of celebration the City of Rome has organized something really special. After the ceremony of ignition of the fire, a parade of about 1500 reenactors will enliven the streets of the city centre and, eventually, a reconstruction of the “siege of Masada” battle will take place.

The location chosen in 2019 to celebrate the 2773rd birthday of Rome is the fascinating ancient Roman chariot-racing stadium of the Eternal City: the Circus Maximus. Easy to get to by tube (Metro Line B, Stop “Circo Massimo”) or by foot if you are close to the Colosseum, this location will provide the event with a special atmosphere.
